A duck, a wooden raft and a river that will not stop bending. Paddle against the current, dodge the rocks and rescue every duckling bobbing in the rapids.

Raft Rapids is an endless river-steering game where a duck on a plank raft floats down a winding, narrowing river full of rocks, logs and whirlpools. It runs right in your browser with nothing to install. Unlike the lane-based Quackoria games, the raft moves freely and the current keeps shoving it sideways, so the challenge is constant counter-steering rather than picking a lane.

How to Play

  • Press Paddle to push off from the bank.
  • The river scrolls toward you and the current sweeps your raft into every bend.
  • Hold left or right to paddle against the pull and keep the raft in open water.
  • Steer around brown rocks, drifting logs and the spinning whirlpools.
  • Bump a little duckling to pick it up for 20 bonus points.
  • Touching a bank, rock or log costs a life. Three bumps and the raft capsizes.

Gameplay tips

  • Start paddling before a bend, not in it. The current is strongest where the river turns hardest.
  • The raft has momentum, so tap the paddle in short bursts instead of holding it and overshooting into the far bank.
  • Whirlpools do not cost a life on their own, but they drag you sideways. Give them a wide berth when a rock is nearby.
  • Ducklings are worth 20 points each, the same as 20 metres of river, so a small detour is usually worth it.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my raft keep drifting into the bank?

The current pushes the raft toward the outside of every bend. Paddle in the opposite direction a moment before the river turns and the raft will hold its line.

Do whirlpools take a life?

No. A whirlpool spins the raft and pulls it toward the middle of the swirl, which can drag you into a rock or a bank, but the whirlpool itself does not cost a life.

How is the score worked out?

Every 10 pixels of river is one metre, and each duckling you pick up adds 20 points. Your best run is remembered on this device.

Does the river get harder?

Yes. The water speeds up, the banks close in and the bends grow sharper the further you float, so a first trip usually lasts about a minute.
